How to make your cover letter

A long time ago a reader asked about making a cover letter, and the answer turned out to be a post on how to do a cover letter .

Well, to make things even easier and a little more structured, we are re-writing this article with more details.

The first thing is: What is a cover letter?

The cover letter or cover letter, is exactly what the name says, it's the cover letter of your resume. Almost like a synopsis of a movie, or that the back of the book, which gives an overview of the history.

In Brazil is not very common to create a formal cover letter, but usually the one email you send by giving a brief description of your career, ends up having the same role.

Well, now we know what the heck is a cover letter, we understand that to serve and how to do it!

The first thing is knowing what you want from life. If you do not know, or read this post until the end! Lie, but read everything :)

When I refer to whatever life, I actually say "What area are you applying?". That will change some details of your cover letter.

Assuming that you are applying for IT. What is more important to be mentioned?

"The size of my shoe," No! Their certifications!

The IT field is one area where certification makes all the difference. When creating your cover letter, it is important to mention that the certifications have X, Y and Z.

If you are applying for the marketing area, is even more important to cite major campaigns that have made / managed, which has won awards and customers who attended (be as creative or as a service).

"Okay, but how does the damned? He killed the snake, now shows the stick! "Easy! I'll show. The cover letter, not the stick. It is more or less like this:

"Dear Mr. Giansante,

I am writing to apply for the Web Developer position advertised on the E-Dublin.

The Opportunity presented in this listing is very interesting, and I believe That my strong technical experience and education Will make me a very competitive candidate for this position. Also I am certificated online:

  • Nuclear Power management
  • Tequila Shot DS3 and B52's
  • Whatever Mega Fuck III

I Also Have experience in learning and excelling at the new technologies needed. Currently I am holding a student seeks Which Allows me to work part-time During six months and full-time in the next six months, However I am freelancing for flexible negotiation.

Please find enclosed my CV for your Appreciation.

I Can Be Reached at leitor-e-dublin@email.com anytime via email or my mobile, Vodafone 087 77.

Thank you for your time. I look forward to hearing back from you.

Sincerely,

Homer Simpson "

As you can see, the cover letter is almost a resumão of your resume, accompanied by some important information (I highlighted in red) as the status of their visa, and most importantly, its flexibility to work.

As already tired of talking , do not limit yourself to what was given to you. Are details like this that will make the recruiter pick up the phone and call you back.

This site features several cover letter templates for different areas, but keep an eye because it is an American site. Some terms and size of the cover letter may be different from here. Try not extend much in your cover letter. We put the models of the most common here:

Resume, Cover Letter, how?

Fernando speaks, everything good?

No worries, doubts are common, I had a lot of doubt when I came, so I think it is fair to contribute what I can.

As I commented in the post http://e-dublin.blogspot.com/2008/05/trabalho-na-area.html handy Cover Letter + CV.

Now come the details:

- Curriculum for under-employment:

Unfortunately (or not) you need to add experience (even that has not) in the area. Example: If you're looking for waiter job or similar place that has experience of at least one or two years as a waiter in Brazil. Invent a company, place and contact a friend ready. It is not nice to lie, but it is the way to get their infancy. Besides that nothing is impossible to learn.

Tip: Do not get just restaurants. Put some related experience as well, as "assembler snacks" or "Experience with cash, stock, etc". Imagine that here, even as a waiter, usually you will meet clients, collect dishes and cups, serving food and drinks and clean up the environment that works.

The same goes for hotels. You'll probably start as "Kitchen Porter" or "cleaner" before turning a Receptionist or anything else. I say this because a friend who works with me and commented that with Homer.

It is also interesting to have a curriculum Salesman. This can vary from shoe salesman to "seller" in stores like C & A, Brook (which is here Penneys, Dunnes). So worth having a different version for each.

Basically, it would be a structure

[Header: name, address, pps, date of birth, email and mobile]

Cover Letter

[Experiences - 3]

[Formation]

[Languages - each level, and do not forget your fluent Portuguese! really.]

[Skills - some skill extra]

[References - some name / email / phone of employer or someone who can be references. In my case, I put a reference together with the experience, will each]

Cover letter, as the name implies, is a "cover letter". In it you will give more explanations, some details that do not enter the CV.

Always be very formal, do not abbreviate words, and put useful information. To serve as a hint, the structure I used was in my Cover Letter:

Dear XXXXX,

[Thanks for the opportunity of the vacancy XXX]

[I have experience with XXXX - the relevant vacancy]

[Also I have paperwork in hand / ready to work legally XX hours]

[I have availability, or not, lol. My contacts are XXX. Please turn preferably XX study because the morning / afternoon / evening]

[Thanks again, and I look back]

[Name and surname]

- Curriculum for employment in the area:
Well, that you should be familiar (or should! Rs). Here does not change much. The curriculum structure is the same sub-job, but your information is true here, as well as contacts references, diplomas, etc., etc..

Never needed to show diploma, nor in either Brazil or here. But I had to prove that he had experience. Details of the interview:
http://www.edugiansante.com/2008/05/new-life-new-job.html
http://e-dublin.blogspot.com/2008/05/entrevista-na-strategem.html

Basically what made the difference: experience in multinational company with international projects and winning cases. ( Intel + McCann ; Projects International Customers: MasterCard , Intel, Nortel , AstraZeneca , HP , Microsoft , Cases winners of Cannes , Abemd , etc.)

This was an interview in my area, digital marketing. But there may be different types of interviewers and interviews, depending on the areas.

I have a friend who works in the area as well as clinical researcher. She has over 5 years of experience in clinical research with major pharmaceutical companies in Brazil (Multinationals such as Novartis , Eurofarma , Pfizer ). The interview was her "punk" as well, but as she said, was to show that he knew what he was talking, and she had studied about the company that would do the interview, and on terms, rules and laws here in Ireland (all studying one learns).

Cover letter of employment in the area is the same thing. Tip: Bring a letter of reference if it is true. It is quite probable that any contact with those who signed the letter, to check the veracity. In my case, I had some recommendations on LinkedIn , and I also e-mail and phone from all my bosses at Intel and McCann. Luckily , they like me, and told they would likely call, then was quiet.

I hope I helped! As usual: I post your email on the blog? Divugar not go your contact, do not worry!

Working in the area

Continuing a bit about the previous post, the question "work in the area" raised many doubts and many hopes for many people.

Really, if you eh specialized (experiment 3, four years in Brazil) and has a good English, run back! Here lacks a lot of skilled labor! Mainly to health care.

A few days ago asked about the model of curriculum, of what relevance eh place, etc..

Well, basically you need two things: cover letter + CV

CV easy eh, eh use the model much like LinkedIn - www.linkedin.com / in / edugiansante

And the cover letter, the hint eh: say something relevant! Not "I am a Brazilian full of desire to work." Put things like: "I have permission to work, I can start immediately, I pps, etc etc" because these are things that matter for the contractors.

If the area can add a paragraph "I have x years of experience in the area of xxx and xxx .." (always formal language .. anything "it's" or "I want to ..." put "it is", "want to ")

Recommendations are very important too, how hard you who come now are indications of some contractor here (I also do not have), sin for people who have worked with you in Brazil (Preferably English speaking) recommend. I was already doing it on LinkedIn a few years ago, then got easier.

Who has experience in overseas PLACE CV and Cover Letter (even if under-employment, but in a place like "experience of catering in the U.S. or Japan .. I know it) also helps a lot!

Who knows eh some language that used in Europe, melhooor yet! (French, German, Spanish, Italian ..) place too!

Sorry for the rush, and I'll try to give Homer a legal update on the weekend!

Aah, ta heat saw? We will show later with a video .. using shorts on the street! hehe
