Planning your exchange to Europe (Ireland) - Part 2

This article was first published on 26/01/09 and had information from 23/01, but we know that these are basic information for those who are wanting to become a citizen of the world, we are re-publishing the article with the updated values! And amazingly, after 10 months, prices have fallen.

This article has listed securities on 11 November 2009.

Well, up to 1 part all seem to flower, much theory and little practice. But it's time to really put their hands dirty, the finger on the calculator and the figures on the pencil.

As the purpose of this paper is to show the minimum amount required for you to perform your exchange project, chose GotoLondon example, a company renowned for its excellent prices and also the company we chose for our exchange broker.

Courses

We decided to make the listing of schools looking at 3 possibilities: a cheaper school, school less expensive in the center and school in a sub-district of Dublin. Thus we have:

  1. The cheapest: The Language House
  2. Center: Eden College
  3. In Sub-District: Annalivia School of Languages (Dun Laoghaire)

Each has a different price for courses and host family, student residence or hotel. When we came, we were two weeks in the Host Family and we think appropriate, but it is each individual to choose the length of stay.

The Cheaper! The Language House

This is the cheapest school in the center and at 7 Herbert Place, near St. Stephan's Square Green.

  • Course 1 year (6 months course + 6 months rental): £ 3372.00 (for the morning)
  • First week in the Family Host: U.S. $ 523.00
  • Second and other weeks in Hamily Host: R $ 523,00 / week.

Total (with 2 weeks in host family): U.S. $ 4418.00

Centrally located! Eden College

Located on Parnell Square, is 50 meters from O'Connell, and 150 of the Spire.

  • Course 1 year (6 months course + 6 months rental): £ 3747.00 (for period of morning or afternoon)
  • First week in student residence with breakfast: £ 248.00
  • Second and other weeks in a student residence: U.S. $ 248.00 per week.

Total (with 2 weeks in a student residence): U.S. $ 4243.00

In Dun Laoghaire: Annalivia School

This is the cheapest school in Dun Laoghaire and is adjacent to the station Dun Laoghaire DART.

  • Course 1 year (6 months course + 6 months rental): U.S. $ 4623.00
  • First week in Hostel itself, with breakfast: $ 330.00

Total (with 1 week in hostel itself): U.S. $ 4953.00

Note: Those who want to stay in hostels, or already have a house to live, there is no need to buy their stay in host family, but make sure you have at hand documents showing that you have where to spend their first days .

Health Insurance

This is a dilemma for many, many people. I confess that for us was not because we believe that when we think of health is an investment a little more, so we opted for an international insurance. Furthermore, we are sure that we would travel, so do not make sense to buy insurance that covers only Ireland.

Government Insurance

This type of insurance that is offered by the Irish government and the assistance it is restricted to the Republic of Ireland. In addition, this insurance coverage is limited to death, loss of limbs or eyes. Any other clinical need minor will not be covered.

  • 1-year Government Security: U.S. $ 343.00

International Insurance

There are 3 types of insurance offered by GTA. For access to Ireland's plan Bronze is sufficient, and provide international coverage for accidents, clinic and even queries as you have seen here.

We hire insurance GTA Bronze, and had no problem. No immigration asked for proof of no insurance.

However, the Schengen Agreement (which includes France, Germany, Greece, Spain, Italy, Portugal, Finland, Sweden, Norway, Belgium, Holland, Denmark, Iceland and Luxembourg) requires health insurance and repatriation are of € 30 billion . In this case, for those who want to travel safely and smoothly with immigration, the list just below the Euro Assist is sufficient (click on names to see the cover).

1 year:

The plans may be 6 months:

  • Insurance Bronze GTA: U.S. $ 405.00
  • Insurance Silver GTA: U.S. $ 697.00
  • Insurance Euro Assist GTA: U.S. $ 864.00

Or on-demand (daily, if you wish to purchase insurance only when traveling to some countries of the Schengen Agreement):

  • Insurance Euro Assist GTA 8 days: $ 80
  • Insurance Euro Assist GTA 16 days: U.S. $ 132
  • Insurance Euro Assist GTA 30 days: U.S. $ 203

Airfare

Finally, you must purchase the airfare. We close the package in early February to go in April, knowing that the months of March and April were low season. Thus, you can find cheap tickets.

One ticket to a weekday in April, making path São Paulo (GRU) - Dublin is approximately U.S. $ 1800.00. The passage takes one year.

To avoid disappointment with passages I would advise buying the passes 45 to 60 days in advance.

The Arrival

To ensure its entry into Dublin you need € 1000, which can be requested at the immigration check. However, these € 1000 will be deposited in a bank account, and may be trapped in the bank for up to 10 days. Therefore it is necessary that you have at least another € 500 million to pay € 150 to the withdrawal of the visa and your expenses while the € 1000 are not yet available.

If you go take more than that, it is strongly advised to make a VTM.

€ 1500 = £ 4080.00 (price of Soviagem Exchange on 11/11/2009, 22:20)

Closing the account and passing the Slider!

Part 1, only the passport and the attorney has set cost.

  • Passport: U.S. $ 156.07
  • Public Attorney: $ 16.00 (or is allowed to drive bank $ 120.00)

Prepared a table summarizing the cheapest packages.

Summary Table

Comparativo de Preços de Intercâmbio para Dublin - Irlanda

Comparison of Exchange Rates for Dublin - Ireland

If you have $ 12 thousand reais, you can start packing. If you can book at least $ 500.00 for pre shopping trip. And if you can bring over € 2000 in your pocket.

This article has listed securities on 11 November 2009, and should be considered as values in sight.

Ireland is not only English course!

Hi guys! How long huh!?
I've been a little busy and could not post anything the last few months, but now I'm having trouble breathing a little and post some things for you faithful readers e-Dublin.

In recent days has surprised me the number of people contacting me wondering about undergraduate, graduate and extra-curricular activities here in Ireland.

I'll try to give an idea of how it works ...

Universities
To talk about courses in universities, I will use the National University of Ireland, Galway campus (known as NUI Galway). The other lot are no exception to these rules presented here.

First step, visit the website of the university and pursue the course that interests you.

Courses, usually found at the "Undergraduate" courses and the Graduate of the "Postgraduate".

The requirements are basically the same as we know it for English courses, namely: health insurance, money, travel voucher, proof of accommodation and after you enter here will also record the Garda to get the GNIB.

Many of these courses are registered with the Department of Education and entitlement to work in the same scheme that we know (20 hours in class and 40 hours on holidays).

However, to attend a course at a university here you must have a certificate showing their level of English. For NUI Galway, the requirement is this:

For Arts, Business, Medicine and Law -> IELTS with a score of 6.5
Engineering, IT and science -> IELTS score of 6.0

Who does not know this examination, give a peek at their website.
Almost all English schools here offer courses to help in testing.

There is a site called PAC (Postgraduate Applications Center), where you can apply to various courses at various universities in Ireland. It also has a FAQ that is worth a look.

On this site, you can also search the list of courses available in each institution!

Unfortunately, the price charged to us Brazilians (non-European) is much higher than the price paid by a European. For example, the Masters Course in Software Engineering and Database:

European students: € 4,170
Non-EU students: € 8,270

There are also the so-called Open University of United Kingdom and Ireland.
What is a university where you can make the most of the courses online and payment is facilitated.

How so?
For you to do a Masters for example, suppose you have to meet the 15 subjects and at the end will cost you a total of € 6,500 (notional value!).

In a regular university, you must pay the full value as you enter ... the Open University as you pay for the field. So, you pay an issue and it does not start and the other when you have money again, doing so will end up all the materials needed.

See an example here.

The Open University of United Kingdom (UK), has more options.

Maaaassss, as always we must not forget that we are not Europeans (
Then you should check the list of courses that residents in Brazil may attend.

Extra-Curricular
Now let's talk a little bit of extra-curricular courses.
These do not always require certificate stating the level of English, but we know that there is no point doing a course and not enteder what is being presented. Will each be able to judge whether or not to attend.

Exit, number of schools that offer this type of course:

Grafton College of Management Sciences -> Courses and requirements

GMIT -> Courses and requirements

Galway Business School -> Programs and requirements

Dublin Business School -> Programs and requirements

There are many other schools ...

Who is studying English, you can also take preparatory courses and make cheap and may even help them in their search for employment.

Check out the sites:
GumTree -> Programs
Fas -> Programs

I hope these help you to know where to start ;)

Kisses,
Poli

Evaluation of Eden College - General Average 9

We have a new contributor: Fernando Cañada came from E-dublin Groups and arrived with the spirit of the fight and we'll help yourself! It is the second article of his, already participated in an E-dublincast, and had sought to colleagues at the airport and drove to the Host Family! = o)

This time, it resolves to join the group that avaliraram school! In this case, the Eden College!

Cost / Benefit

When I bought my course was in Brazil, I paid 1500 euros for the afternoon hours, but when I got here I realized that there would be a good option for me and asked for change;
I managed to change my schedule for the night, but I had to pay a difference of 450 euros, because the course the night is the total cost of 1950.00 for employers who hire directly from Brazil.

If today I want to change the time for morning or afternoon, not to pay
nothing (according to the secretariat and students).

Note: They say that to renew the course is one of the schools cheaper.

In the course of language, the school offers vocational courses like nursing, administration and some more.

Rating: 8.5

Location

The Eden College is located in Lower Dominic Street, 40, Dublin 1, is between the streets and PARNELL DORSET and is very close to the Spire, less than 5 minutes walking.

Are 2 buildings of 3 floors interconnected.

Rating: 9

Facilities

The school has a good show up, including this week are painting the inside walls, the stairs are well cared for, the classroom has a pleasant temperature, except Monday which is cold (not sure why). There is external noise during class (Day), the bathrooms are always clean, but not always hot water for washing hands and sometimes the "hand dryers" are off. For, the bathrooms are on the -1 floor and classrooms are the first and second floor, if you're lazy, go to the bathroom before class.

There is a canteen that I've never been and is the second building, which has a computer for Internet access.

The school has 3 computer labs on floor -1 and 2 more laboratories on the first floor when no professional lessons, you can use these computers.

The classrooms are common, has a capacity of about 15 to 20 students, a radio with CD and a table.

Currently you must buy the English book which costs 28.00 euros and 20.00 New Used if you take care of it right school purchase when you switch level.

Rating: 8

Presence

If you want a school that "a trick" if you miss a lot, it is better to choose another. Currently, if the student was not, is LACK period. Some teachers turn a blind eye when you arrive late or must leave early, since it does not become routine.

How I came to learn English, I chose this pattern tougher for me to relax.

Once you enter, you have a digital scanner, which makes the identification and arrival time and when you go away to do the same process to record the output.

Note: The Requirement (minimum) for you to renew your visa / travel is 80% of course attendance.

Rating: 9

Faculty / Staff

There are teachers in various countries teaching at Eden College, my teacher now is Croatian, as the teacher of my bride is Irish and the teacher from the next room is Scottish.

In the English school, they give many hints of Irish English, inform phrases commonly used, etc..

In the Department work 4 or 5 people, one is Brazilian (Luzinete) and generally help the Brazilians in their questions, I have never met her in my schedule.

One big advantage I saw in this school is that the turnover of teachers is not large, I knew already give lessons there for many months or even years.

Rating: 9.5

Students

The night, in my time, there are approximately 80% of Brazilians, Koreans 5% and 15% mixed.

In class, is not allowed to speak in another language, English only, at least Elementary (second level) up.

A friend who is studying in the morning said that other part is more diversified.

Rating: 8

Conclusion - General average - 9.0

I'm in school for 45 days, I was always treated very well by students, staff and teachers, all my doubts are cleared up quickly, the school is well located, there is concern about maintaining the initial course is not the cheapest, but the renew it you get a very good discount.

If after all this time I had the opportunity to choose a school again I would try again for the Eden College.

Retrospective E-Dublin 2008 - Schools

Before you buy your packet exchange, the big question that comes to mind is "which school should I study?".

You nuzzles the blogs, the Internet after all information, but can not find much different.

In the end, if your budget is short, and your main goal is not to study formally (but in life), there is no great difference in the quality of schools and much will depend on its willingness for ça. In general, if you pay cheap are running the risk of ending up in a school is a factory that more visas than a school itself!

However, it is always worth evaluating, and trying to bring school choice to their goals: location, ease of renewing visa, best time, flexibility, etc..

Evaluated some schools, I hope to help you!

  1. Grafton College
  2. Abbey College
  3. DBL
  4. Galway Language Center

We are aware that many schools are not evaluated, so ask your help this year: When you come here, make an assessment of your school and send them to us, I am sure you will help many people who are in the same situation that you were !

We have you in 2009!
Good luck and good lessons to all!
